City Bible Forum weekly talks start today in the Sydney CBD with a special topic - “Where was God in the bushfires?”
Speaker: Dominic Steele.
Time: Wednesday 12.10pm or 1.10pm, or Thursday 1.10pm.
Location: 123 Pitt Street (Angel Place Conference Centre) Martin Place for the Wednesday talks, or Chapter House (St Andrews Cathedral) Town Hall for the Thursday.
Cost: Free to bring lunch in or pay $7 for their lunch.

It was a pretty good talk with a judgment and evangelistic angle. Also a good opportunity to completely distance from Nulliah’s views on the fires, quoting Luke 13.
Our neighbouring parish is holding a Community Prayer Service tomorrow for those in Campbelltown area suburbs. Posters have been placed around the area.

There will be a Community Prayer Service held about the Victorian Bushfires at St Barnabas Anglican Church in Ingleburn at 3pm this coming Thursday 12th Feb. ( 90 Cumberland Road near Oxford Rd lights - opposite primary school )
I am having great difficulty trying to find any link to the “SMBC Children’s Ministry Training conference (Sydney), Sat. 2nd May.” I could only find a reference to it on the SMBC site listed in their ‘Ministry calendar’ - bot no other details at all. Do you have any other contact details etc that we can pass on to others ? Thanks.

Venue: Sportsworld Indoor Centre Miranda, 8/2-4 Kumulla Rd Miranda behind Endeavour High School.
Sports: Indoor soccer, cricket, netball and dodgeball (w soft balls).

The three are in-house parishioners who’ve attended a 3-part preaching class run by retired interim pastor, Rev Bob McSwan. So one will do the 1st third, then another will do the next, then another the home stretch.

That novelty was rather interesting - the passage on Ephesians 2:1-10 which was obviously about grace. The preaching was also obviously good, but it was interesting to see the different ways which the speakers went about it…
The first had a distinctive traditionalist Presbyterian style.
The second had an academic Baptist slant.
The third went all contemporary SA. You can quite easily guess who the youngest one was!
I’d be keen on having this kinda thing every once in a while, just not every week lol.
I think that kind of balance of different styles is good for people to see. It stops us getting arrogant by adopting a “my-speaker-does-it-the-right-way-so-yours-must-therefore-be-wrong” attitude.
As long as they handle the Word of truth correctly, of course! (cf. 2 TIMOTHY 2:15.)

Enjoyed the frisbee and the induction service. The service was packed to the rafters and the singing, being in one language for once (English) in bilingual services, really raised the roof!
On the day of the induction service, I also took a mobile phone video of the refurbished sidehall and 2nd storey extension which is on my Facebook profile. Some forumites are friends already hehe. I sound a bit like Mickey Mouse in that which is typical of mobile phone videos, so apologies in advance for that…

This event, just last Saturday night, took place at the Sydney Ent. Cent.: RICE Rally.
Many lost/unbelieving teenaged students from churches all around Sydney - invited by their Christian teenager friends - heard speaker Matt Chandler (ie. the same one engaged to speak at KCC conference Engage) give an evangelistic talk.
I’m not sure how many students exactly responded to the invitation to find out more about the message of Jesus preached at this event, but I understand it was above 1000 - how about that??!?
I definitely know the RICE organisers ran out of available youth leaders who could talk/pray with interested students - the response was a lot more than they had planned for!
We have had the privilege this year at RICE09 to see the gospel of Jesus Christ go out to thousands of youth in Sydney. We thank our amazing God who is mighty to save, we thank our amazing RICE Youth Leadership team for their tireless efforts, we thank our ever so generous supporters for all their prayers and assistance and we thank the Youth of Sydney for bringing all your friends to come hear the truth of Gods word.
We hope that in the year ahead you too will continue to have that same passion to see your friends know the love of God through Jesus. Be bold and let this generation in your schools hear the good news of Jesus proclaimed!!

Topic: Who is better qualified to answer this question than Jesus Christ himself. In Sam Chan’s talk he will point us to a section in the Bible (Luke 19:1-10) where a wealthy businessman is determined to become a follower of Jesus Christ. But there are some stumbling blocks in the way. Come and see how it turns out and get some answers yourself on this important question.
Place and Cost: NSW Leagues Club, Elizabeth Street St James. $20/person includes a two course meal. Drinks can be purchased from the bar. You can pay for more than one person as you register. Come by yourself or in a group. All are welcome. Dinner will be served promptly at 6.45pm.

On Monday 12th October, 2009, Jesus All about life is running an event in the middle of Sydney that will go completely against the cultural norm, an event that will see Gen Y giving back, an event that will see Gen Y, saying thankyou.
WHAT IT WILL LOOK LIKE
From 12-2pm on Monday 12th October we are going to say thankyou.
500+ young people in blue t-shirts with ‘GEN Y says THANKYOU’ written on the front and ‘Jesus. All about life’ on the back.
Cooking at 10 barbeques. Serving 2,000+ sausage sandwiches and bottles of water to the workers of Sydney
And its all happening In the forecourt of St Andrews Cathedral.
WHAT ARE WE HOPING TO ACHIEVE
A chance to smash the cultural norm and show that knowing Jesus makes a profound impact on everyone – including Gen Y.
We want to create a noise in the middle of Sydney, in the middle of the campaign. To show what it looks like to follow Jesus, to break the stereotype of church, of Christians, of Jesus and of Gen Y – and to put His words into action. Jesus came not to be served but to serve; he called us to humbly serve those around us, to show them God’s love through simple actions. This lunch isn’t about the food, it is about the act of saying thankyou, saying thanks to God for our amazing city and saying thankyou to the people of the city, that make this city what it is.
It will be a powerful statement to the city of Sydney and the wider state that knowing Jesus, changes people, makes them more grateful, more caring, more loving and turns them into people of action.
WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU?
We need 500+ young people who are willing to cook sausages, butter bread, hand out sandwiches and bottles of drink. Young people willing to walk around Sydney in blue Jesus All about life t-shirts and saying thankyou.
All we ask is you register to let us know you are coming (Click Here), spread the word about the event amongst all your friends, bring $5 with you to cover the cost of the shirts and that you come ready to serve.

Anyone who has attended the Classics in the Cathedral in the past will agree that it is a night of outstanding quality, well worth the ticket price. Some of Sydney’s top performers have kindly donated their time to put on a concert to raise support for the church’s ongoing ministry to musicians through Conservatorium Christian Group. There will be opportunity on the night to find out how you can support this ministry both through prayer and financially.

Danish Choir comes to St Andrew’s
Under the Protection of Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Mary, the Thisted Church Choir of Men and Boys, Denmark has been invited by The Royal Danish Embassy in Australia, to give a concert in The Sydney Opera House and to tour Australia; performing Scandinavian, British and Continental European music from four centuries.
The Choir has performed in venues such as National Cathedral Washington, Cathedral San Francisco, Crystal Cathedral Los Angeles, Danish Churches, Disneyland and San Diego.
These concerts were attended by more than 15.000 people, giving standing ovations in appreciation of the choir’s high international standards.
The choir will be singing at the Cathedral for the morning service on the 11th October, and for a spectacular concert on Monday 12th October at the Cathedral, at 7.30pm. Admission is by a suggested donation of $10. All proceeds to the St Andrew’s Cathedral Music Foundation.
This is just hours after the BBQ, consider returning after work!
I went between 1pm-2pm. There were the expected 500+ volunteers over 6? food distribution stations and a band. However I’m going to take a pot-shot here. Can’t say it was a success insofar as substantial non-Christian contact was concerned. Yes tracts were handed out and I (in normal not blue gear) talked to about 2-3 non-Christians. But not many conversations were had from general observation between non-Christians and volunteers. In the end it appeared to be more of a ‘Christians helping other Christians’ event which was not what the event was originally organised for.

Inspiring People was great, ~200 attending to hear about the experiences of people like Steve Mortimer. Although I’m positive that everyone in the room was older than me!

TWIST was reasonably good. Wouldn’t necessarily go every year but I really enjoyed the musical workshops and the singing. Main talks weren’t as good (because it was on very familiar territory - Colossians).
Doing Business With God got 50+ people to hear Sam Chan, ~30% non-Christian. He was a really powerful speaker who connected well with workers, and would connect even better with a teen audience. The message was of salvation from the Zaccheus the tax collector passage. Dinner was good too with chicken & veg, red & white wine and dessert!
