Thanks and praise to God for..?

My dad was operated on today.  I’ve spoken with the surgeon, and it seems to have gone quite well.  We still have to wait and see, but without getting technical or gory this is a way better scenario than at the end of last month.

That’s good to hear Ros.

My little ‘thank you God’ moment has been for the book of Revelation. There is just something about apocalyptic writing that sends numinous chills down the spine. I’ve been reminded what a horrible thing it would be to fall into the hands of an angry God. Thank you Lord for trying to wake me up a little.

Hi Dave,

I had an interesting “Revelation” experience on Christmas day when the replacement preacher talked about comparing the ‘baby’ Jesus to the ‘adult’ Jesus - and THEN used the dragon episode of Rev 12 to illustrate the ‘grown up’ Jesus. Needless to say, I am still complexed. We couldn’t face backing up the next day for Sunday church as well.

ps - Hi Ros, that’s really great news. What a great start to the New year !

I’ve heard some say the beginning of Rev 12 is about Jesus being born and the family fleeing to Egypt for 3 years, and uses some pretty wild images to do so! But if we continue this, maybe we should do so in the Revelation thread. Cheers.

I’ve been accepted as a Wycliffe member, and am planning to help the VITAL project in Milne Bay, PNG. If everything goes to plan I’ll be leaving in August/September for 6/7 months. :D

That’s exciting news, Dannii.  We’ll be praying for you. Is there a web link to the VITAL project ?

9 weeks on from his operation, my dad is going well.  He has been home (by himself, mostly) for the last few weeks. He saw the surgeon again yesterday, and started chemo today (I understand).  All seems good, physically, emotionally, and even socially.

Thanks for the update, Ros. Some good points for thanks and praise there.

Excellent news Ros.

Thinking down the track… do they cater for kids now? Would your family run a home school thang, or is there a local school? Or are you on a shorter project with them?

Kevin: there’s unfortunately not too much info, but these have some: http://www.theseedcompany.org/project/vital-ig-cluster http://www.facebook.com/pages/VITAL/368410077741  The Seed Company’s “Reports to Investors” (bottom of the left column) are pretty informative.

Wow, that looks amazing Dannii.  All that work to get the Bible translation natural.  What will you be doing?  Do you have to know the language(s)?

Thanks to God for His healing hand on my father.

On 2nd Dec last year (6 months ago), I wrote this:

My father has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given about 6-12 months to live.  The surgeon thinks he wouldn’t be able to get it out and is not encouraging surgery.  Chemo might slow it down but that’s about it.  The first thing he has to do (tomorrow) is have a stent put in his bile duct because the tumor is crunching it and he has jaundice.

Please pray that he’d turn to Jesus.

and on the 20th this:

The cancer my dad has may be operable after all!

We were providentially led (for a second opinion) to the best surgeon around for the particular operation he would need, and he is much more positive.  I went with Dad to see him on Friday last week, and we are going to see him again tomorrow, with the operation possibly between Christmas and New Year.

and on 29th December:

My dad was operated on today.  I’ve spoken with the surgeon, and it seems to have gone quite well.  We still have to wait and see, but without getting technical or gory this is a way better scenario than at the end of last month.

2nd March:

9 weeks on from his operation, my dad is going well.  He has been home (by himself, mostly) for the last few weeks. He saw the surgeon again yesterday, and started chemo today (I understand).  All seems good, physically, emotionally, and even socially.

Now, although he still has one more chemo to go, it seems likely that he is in remission.  In fact, he’s feeling strong and healthy enough that he’s gone on a birdwatching camp with a group of friends!  (Just hope that’s not too much for him)  I’m wondering at what point I’d be justified in claiming there’s been a miracle.  But actually, the real miracle would be if he’d turn to Jesus.  He’s clearly been given another chance.
