media release - digital forty four

28 Feb 2010 - Source: Australian Christian Channel

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) recently announced that it would not be extending the Sydney datacasting trial service Digital Forty Four, operated by Broadcast Australia, beyond 30 April 2010.

This will mean the Australian Christian Channel, National Indigenous Television (NITV), Teachers TV and others will no longer be available in the Sydney Metropolitan area on this service.

The Australian Christian Channel has been a part of this trial that began in 2004, and has seen a growing supportive audience who value this service. The Australian Christian Channel thanks all those who have supported them over this period. The Australian Christian Channel continues to be available on all major PayTV platforms; Foxtel, Austar, Optus TV, TransACT and Neighbourhood Cable.

For more information about the future of the datacast service and the future involvement of the Australian Christian Channel in this platform, please contact ACMA ((JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)), Broadcast Australia ((JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)) or Australian Christian Channel ((JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)).

Viewers with strong views about this decision should contact Hon. Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.

This channel is a source of great encouragement - especially for shut-ins and the less mobile.

It is time for enthused Christian people to start complaining IN WRITING - and spread the word !

how to complain.
Send it to where??

I will repeat :

Viewers with strong views about this decision should contact Hon. Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.

Which programs, Ray?
The couple of times I’ve turned on ACC the content was pretty poor, and got howled down by everyone else in the house.

Obviously a commercial decision by the Government - it costs too much to offer the bandwidth to community and church groups.

However I’ll give the emailing thing a whirl.

I watched first-run movies (Faith Like Potatoes and Hansie recently), as well as some Hillsong and music/youth content.  Some discernment may be needed in some parts, but overall the content has been quite good.

Ive found the oz preachers some what better than the American ones. Even Brain Houston was better than the American ones.

Digital FORTY FOUR is broadcast exclusively to over 3.8 million people in Sydney, Australia’s biggest city and carries a number of channels from news to shopping.

Following a recent decision by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) these trial services will end on 30 April 2010. Viewers with strong views about this decision should contact ACMA directly or contact Senator the Hon. Stephen Conroy, Minister for Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy.

In addition to previously listed channels, I now notice that Channels 47 and 48: Australian Federal Parliament ( House of Reps and The Senate ) will also be CUT OFF on April 30. So there goes the access ( and accountability ) to the Australian public of what goes on in our Federal Parliaments as they seek to change our laws.

WHAT ARE THEY TRYING TO HIDE ?  What don’t they want us to see ? How much money is involved in keeping Digital Forty Four going anyway ? Surely it’s a pittance - compared to the BILLIONS thrown away with dodgy home insulation and over-inflated BER school building projects. Something smells here ....

You can still stream this channel now on http://accdev.netstrategies.com.au/watch.php.

Less convenient I know but I do it anyway.

The few times I watched it it left me very cold.
There was a lot of awful music that had Hillsong or similar written all over it and there seemed no end to heavy American accents and Creationist propaganda.
It was all a bit “why bother?”

Conspiracy theory # 666 :

Two of the channels that disappeared ‘down the gurgler’ when the Digital 44 stations were stopped by the Federal Government on 30 April were the two channels that broadcast every word from the Federal House of Rep’s and also the Senate. So why does the government want to limit the people of Australia from hearing/seeing what is being said in the parliaments of Australia ?

What are Kevin Rudd and the usual suspects trying to hide from the voters ? We need access to ALL that is being proposed in our parliaments. Because we cannot count on just the print and TV media to give us the whole story -  just look at the leftist bias in the various Age/SMH columnists - not to mention the ABC TV & radio branches of the ALP. Although, after Kevin Rudd’s agitated performance towards Kerry O’Brien’s reasonable questions on last night’s 7.30 Report,

                      http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/content/2010/s2897846.htm

I think the ranks of soldered-on ALP media types may be growing thinner as more folk wake up to the Great Imposter.

Less freely and easily available access of information to the people needs to be regarded as suspect and highly undesirable !

For those who scoff at ‘conspiracy theories’, just remember that just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean that they’re not out to get you - or me ;)

Conspiracy theory #667 :

Uses Kevin’s reasoning but this time on NITV Channel 40 which was also taken off.  Does it mean that Labor has now become anti-left?

Also note that any rightie can choose to access information in the media which is of that nature.  Just look at the Daily Telegraph editorials and talkback radio!

Agree totally with your Age/730 Report comments though!

I’m talking about having access to hearing the SOURCE parliamentary comments from members of parliament - NOT just abbreviated comments read in papers or heard on talkback radio. Have you ever taken time to see what goes on in parliament - and I am NOT referring to that farcical blight on democracy called “Question Time” - I’m referring to what goes on the REST of the time when Channel 2 isn’t broadcasting.

Also, are you saying that NITV 40 - being the indigenous channel - was a LEFT channel ? I hadn’t noticed any politics during the times when I watched - generally it was about their culture and way of life etc.  Seems like an over simplistic view of indigenous matters to think that being indigenous means being a leftie. Many today have forgotten that the first Aboriginal person to sit in Federal Parliament ( as a Senator for Queensland from 1971 to 1983 ) was Neville Bonner - a member of the Liberal Party.

I had seen the source channels 47 & 48 from time to time ... albeit while channel surfing hehe.

Certainly.  If you remember how the news on NITV was delivered you’d agree with me.  They always harp on about how more money needs to be spent on xyz ... as if the government had a bottomless flow of money, a typical left pitch.  And being in the Liberal Party doesn’t necessarily mean right wing.  Both of the major parties have left and right elements, though Labor is traditionally more left and Libs more right.
