Inspirational quotes

Who is this baby ?

Who is this baby ?

In chemistry, He turned water to wine.
In biology, He was born without the normal conception.

In physics, He disproved the law of gravity when He ascended into heaven.
In economics, He disapproved the law of diminishing return by feeding 5,000 men with two fishes and 5 loaves of bread.

In medicine, He cured the sick and the blind without administering a single dose of drugs.
In history, He is the beginning and the end.

In government, He said that he shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Prince of Peace.
In religion, He said no one comes to the Father except through him; So. Who is He ? He is Jesus ! The greatest man in history.

Jesus had no servants, yet they called Him Master.
He had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher.
He had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer.
He had no army, yet kings feared Him.
He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world.
He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him.
He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today.

Something to reflect on :

OBITUARY (The Times, 27/2/02)

Today we mourn the passing of an old friend, by the name of commonsense.

Common Sense lived a long life but died from heart failure early in the new millennium. No one really knows how old he was since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He selflessly devoted his life to service in schools, hospitals, homes, factories and offices, helping folks get jobs done without fanfare and foolishness. For decades, petty rules, silly laws and frivolous lawsuits held no power over Common Sense. He was credited with cultivating such valued lessons as to know when to come in out of the rain, the early bird gets the worm, and life isn’t always fair.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you earn), reliable parenting strategies (the adults are in charge, not the kids), and it’s okay to come in second (or even last, as long as your best efforts were given).

A veteran of the Industrial Revolution, the Great Depression, and the Technological Revolution, Common Sense survived cultural and educational trends including body piercing, whole language and “new math.” But his health declined when he became infected with the “if-it-only-helps-one-person-it’s-worth-it ?” virus. In recent decades his waning strength proved no match for the ravages of overbearing regulations.

He watched in pain as good people became ruled by self-seeking lawyers. His health rapidly deteriorated when schools endlessly implemented zero tolerance policies, reports of six year old boys charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, a teen suspended for taking a swig of mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student. It declined even further when schools had to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student but cannot inform the parent when the female student is pregnant or wants an abortion.

Finally, Common Sense lost his will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, criminals received better treatment than victims, and federal judges stuck their noses in everything from Boy Scouts to professional sports. Finally, a woman who was stupid enough not to realize that coffee is hot, and was awarded a huge payout for her stupidity, caused Common Sense to finally throw in the towel.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers: My Rights and lma Whiner. Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone.

I must confess that I didn’t really find this quote ‘inspirational’ at all :

“My goal through ( participating in ) Miss America was to ooze Jesus through everything I said ”  spoken by a Miss America contestant on Hour of Power this morning - Sunday 14 March 2010

Is it just me that finds “my goal ....  was to OOZE Jesus through everything I said” a bit off putting - or am I in a deep black hole and not spiritual enough ?

“If they don’t love you ... they don’t deserve you”

(Or something to that effect)

Timely Tips :

Accept the fact that some days you’re the pigeon, and some days you’re the statue!

Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them.

Drive carefully. It’s not only cars that can be recalled by their Maker.

It may be that your sole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

Never put both feet in your mouth at the same time, because then you won’t have a leg to stand on.

Nobody cares if you can’t dance well. Just get up and dance.

The second mouse gets the cheese.

When everything’s coming your way, you may be in the wrong lane.

Birthdays are good for you. The more you have, the longer you live.

We could learn a lot from crayons. Some are sharp, some are pretty and some are dull. Some have weird names and all are different colors, but they all have to live in the same box.

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Have an awesome day and know that someone has thought about you today.

Some apologetics questions to ponder, which I came across here.  I like them because they appeal to my sense of paradox.

If an organisation is deemed to be anti-woman then you would think that the majority who choose to attend would be males

Why is religion mocked for having weak people in it who have no backbone and then again because it is the cause of all wars?

How can religion be considered both a waking nightmare and a fool’s paradise?

If the world is beautiful/good enough without a Creator then why is religion deemed a crutch for people to deal with it?

Do we trust the ethics of Aristotle and not of Abbott? Has ethics changed in two hundred years, but not in two thousand?
(I don’t get that one)

And maybe one on the big bang: If a very loud bang happened outside my house my first thought would be that something had caused it….
