Should I start a blog?

I’m thinking of starting a blog but I want to do it properly. I don’t want to be a person who starts one and then lets it die.

I have opinions and I wouldn’t mind a forum to share them. Is it worth going to the effort of blogging? (Now that I think about it, blogging sounds so very self-indulgent…)

EDIT: Also, suggestions for the who, what, where and how would be helpful.

If you’re overseas on short-term mission & too short of funds to ring home, a blog is a really useful way of letting family/friends at home know you’re OK.

Also I read in a book titled “Friend raising” that it’s a great way of keeping prayer supporters informed of what God is doing on the field where you’ve been sent.

My blog started as a simple & cheap way of keeping in touch without having to reply to countless e-mails (all asking similar questions) from family, relatives or friends.

It now serves as a way to reflect on what transpired while overseas on mission, on what the future may hold, & in fact may repeat its original function if perhaps God allows me to return overseas for more mission.. .. ..

Oops, said too much. Hiding now. But before I scuttle for cover.. .. ..blogs can be useful. IMHO.

Do it, no reason not to. Blogger and Wordpress make it easy to set one up, no need to worry about domains and servers etc.

Just be realistic in what you can do. I had hoped to write at least 1 blog post a week for mine, but I’ve settled for 1-2 a month instead. That’s no problem, with feed readers people will still read your posts without having to check all the time.

If you do decide to start one, please post the address here!

Yeah, I lot of people start with the intention of getting into, and not letting it die, but most of the time it will.

But I don’t think that has to be a bad thing. I think it’s actually a much easier project to have an end point, write what you know, then leave it be for a bit until you know more stuff, then you can blog about that.

Often, writing *is* thinking, and I think everyone can benefit from writing in whatever form, even if it’s just for their own benefit. So, if you want to do for it, go for it. If it dies, so what? Nothing ventured, nothing gained :)

Plus, if you do write too infrequently to maintain a steady audience, but what a spot to write occasionally, you can always write up your posts and then mention them here if you want to kick off some discussion.

Blogs are a great idea in general.  Some options:

- Your own blog.  Probably best, but you may not have as many visitors.

- Ally with some other blog like The Sola Panel (I don’t 100% endorse them lol), if you’re conservatively inclined and only want to talk about Christian issues.

- Just post here as Luke said.

- Geocities was going to be an option as it looks flashier, but Geocities will shut down soon :=(.  I have taken this option over the past few years to talk about my life i.e. a general diary rather than a theological blog.
