Cricket thread

Who’s been following the cricket series?

The test series has to be one of the best I’ve ever seen. It was the battle of the tails in a lot of ways, but it’s been fantastic to finally see some evenly matched cricket, even if we don’t always come out on top! :)

I’m not convinced by the ODI squad - do we really need all those average all-rounders?

Edit: changed title

A cricket-tragic putting up their hand here. I am a bit of a one-eyed Australian supporter but have to hand it to South Africa, they were the better team and it’s great that they’re playing the game in the best spirit of cricket, not that I’d like to draw any disparagnign comparisons with teams from the sub-continent…......

I think the one day team and t20 is good to introduce some new young players, Warner’s flash in the pan was spectacular, but Sean Marsh seems to be doing well.

It will be interesting to see if Warner can get a good start on Friday - we wish him well.  I read that he’s already been signed up for the rich Indian Premier league -  so that is probably why the papers were talking about him buying a new house for his parents. BTW does anyone know when the Indian games begin ?

Casey replies :

“I’ll teach you.” (launches Raph into the air and into a trash can with one solid WHACK!) ” See ? Six runs.”

I can’t believe I get that reference.

I can’t believe I get that reference.

And I can’t believe it’s not butter !

The quoted interchange is from from “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”. I also believe that it ran at Owen’s local cinema for 52 straight weeks - a record to this day - which could explain a few things about Owen ;)

How good to have some competition instead of the one sided games we have had in the last few years!

This has been a fantastic summer so far. The tests were the best I’ve seen in a long time, and the ODIs have been brilliant so far (it’s funny how the T20s make the ODIs seem like normal cricket).

But I have a confession…  I’m not unhappy that we lost the test series. I think there have been problems with the Aussie team for a few years, mostly due to a timid and confused selection mentality and a captain who doesn’t handle pressure well. (Don’t get me wrong, I have the utmost admiration for Ponting at a batsman - one of the best to ever play the game - I just don’t think he’s the skipper we need at the moment). Losing on the sub-continent was one thing, but losing a series at home has hopefully forced some soul-searching in the upper echelons of the ACB.

The big positive of the recent tests is that Haddin stepped up and proved himself a worthy replacement for Gilchrist.

Also, I think the selectors have bowed to public pressure in putting Warner into the squad. He’s an amazing talent but needs a few years experience at state level. I’d be mighty peeved if I was Hodge.

Yes Warner was exciting but too green to be thrown into the ODI team I thought. Hodge has to be the unluckiest cricketer in Australia given his record.

Will be interesting to see if Warner gets away today - he just hit Steyn for four, dot, six, four :)

We’ll probably get flogged again.  Australia can say “sayonara” well-and-truly to its #1 position in both ODIs and Tests.

Oh dear, lost to NZ as well!  Famous last words indeed.

Hey Luke, how about making this a general cricket thread (SA are out of the country now yeah?)

Hey Luke, how about making this a general cricket thread (SA are out of the country now yeah?)

Sounds like a good idea. But may I point out that there is another domestic “SA” team playing as well ;)

Did anyone watch the Allan Border Medal last night?

I found it incredibly bad TV. The ‘new’ method of revealing the winners was boring - none of the building tension as points from each game slowly build up, moving players in and out of contention. Just a quick video highlights package, then ‘the winner is’.

Once again Richie delivered - he was the best part of the night as he inducted Steve Waugh into the hall of fame.

I’m not one for awards ceremonies by & large so didn’t see it, but going by what the WAGS were wearing, I think the sales of double sided tape alone will prop up the economy until the next government hand outs.

Yikes, we’re 2/35 after 10, Warner failed again, Ponting being rested and we’ve got a pretty long tail. This doesn’t bode well.

We have 45 plus degrees here in my little hamlet in nth west vic.  Stiff ntherly sand storm blowing and visibility is down to about 500metres.
The RedBacks are fielding at the moment and I can hear the roars as the ‘hows that!‘s and so forth coming from the field next door .....can’t exactly see them but they are there out in this crazy weather.

I did see earlier that half the fielders do have cans in their hands however :)  .....nothing like a game of country cricket.

Good finish to an ordinary cricket season for Australia down in Oz ... 2 ODI wins, an ODI draw and a 1-run T20 win :=).

Hope the Aussie team performs better over in SA.

Last night’s 20-20 game featured one of the greatest catches in cricket you’ll ever see.

Looking forward to Hughes and North performing over in SA, hope they don’t bow out ignamoneously.
