call for Tragics: So You Think You Can Dance

Link to Andrew Denton interview with Ian Dickson
(Warning) It’s actually quite unpleasant.  It describes in part his personal experience participating in ‘Dancing with the Stars’.  But of course I do not automatically assume another dance program would be the same.

Ten is drumming up this Sunday’s action. Apparently one of the top 8 dancers will be “forced to leave” the competition. Oh the drama, sheer drama, of it all! Pity I’ll be fighting the good fight at an evening church somewhere so probably won’t catch the program..!

TZ.

Haven’t set out for church yet - hopefully will go with older sister to 7PM church service of her choice.

A quick pop-over to the Ten website reveals that Penny will be withdrawing from SYTYCD owing to a fractured rib.

Poor girl. It’s hard to pour so much of your life into something like dance and suddenly find the dream is over.

TZ.

Oh dear.  Poor Penny indeed.  Also if she has to go then one of the guys has to go tonite as well, doesn’t bode well for Timomatic as he’s consistently in the last bunch…

At least Gianne got one more chance!

Have to say, the top 8 girls are brilliant dancers, but that group number they had to do was absolutely awful. Nothing redeeming about it at all! in that the choreography for their unison was so completely inappropriate.

Such a shame they can’t do lyrical all the time - it’s so much cleaner. In every sense of the word!

TZ.

I PVR’d the normal time of 7.30-9.30 so missed out on the last half hour.  Of the dances I saw, they were all quite good.  Only 1 of the 7 dances was remotely sexual, but then you would have had to deliberately look out for it to see it.

Pity that Timomatic had to be eliminated, and Gianne yet again.

It’s a shame that anyone from top 12 onwards should be voted out; they are all brilliant dancers.

Still favour Talia (now Gianne’s gone) - but the three boys are excellent too. BJ’s pirouettes (turns) and effortless jetés (jumps) put me in mind of Mikhail Baryshnikov in American Ballet Theatre’s Don Quixote. Though obviously Misha Baryshnikov is far better than BJ could ever be.

TZ.

Farewell to Kat and BJ. I thought Kat’s thank-you speech was interesting; she started by thanking “the man upstairs”, which was intriguing.

Hmmm..does that mean she believes in God? If so was she too embarrassed to honour Him by name?

Mind you, speaking as a common-garden sinner (saved) with some serious anger-management and temper-control issues, maybe it’s better not to say outright that one knows God then turn around and dishonour Him by a woeful lack of self-control and an equally woeful outburst of rage.. .. ..regrettably I confess that I speak from very recent experience.. .. ..

Shame about BJ - an excellent dancer, with breathtaking leaps & turns. But Charlie is such a popular boy, I think we all knew he’d stay in after Ben, ‘cause the fangirls just luuuurve their Chucky Cheese.

As an oldie, I’m biased towards Ben rather than Charlie (who has, after all, just a bit more life ahead of him at age 19 than Ben does at age 26).

(Sorry to all those who couldn’t care less about this.)

The use of one pointe plus one heeled shoe per dancer was really quite novel (Talia/Amy).

The problem with watching that program is that I always want to make up dances in the living room afterwards! (Only pure classical ballet, obviously.)

TZ.

I’m enjoying this show but there’s only one week to go in the season.

Talia to win it for mine, but Charlie may be a smokey.

I must agree with you Tia. I don’t think we have to advertise or ride on God’s back. God has given people the equipment to find God , their creator. It just takes a bit of life experience and the Grace of God.

{*still scratching head over the post just prior to this one..*}

TZ.

P.S. Arthur, I don’t think I’m that much older than you, but I don’t understand what you said about Charlie. What on earth does “smokey” mean? Sounds like a Generation Y term.

[ Edited: 20 April 2009 04:45 PM by Tia Zheng]

Actually, that’s an Aussie term.  It means that he’s a solid outside chance of winning :=).

It’s all over! And we got TALIA!!!!!

A victory for ballet dancers everywhere!!

Feel sad for Ben though. The more I watched him, the more I liked him, so a bit disappointing that he placed 4th when the votes counted. Although anyone who cared about the show would have known Charlie would get more votes, judging by the volume of girly screams he always got!

Guess the thread’s run its course too. But at least if I ever
a) go to a live dance performance
b) go to a ballroom or other partner-dance class

..I can recruit people from these fora to come with me!

Yours en pointe,
TZ.

Well done Talia!  I was surprised that she looked surprised though, when it was announced that she won.  She was the favourite in my eyes.

For a, definitely not b though!

For a, definitely not b though!

If that’s incitement to a date, I warn you I’m a pauper and on a 12-month long rebound! But don’t let that stop you.

;P

Haha, I was merely talking about the appeal of going to a dance performance along the lines of So You Think You Can Dance :=).  Just wondering what it would feel like as no-one I know’s that much of a fan (some may watch the show but that’s it).
